  • Tim Kring Responds to Heroes Questions, Complaints (11/8/2007)

Kring has apparently been doing the rounds. Here's the link to an interview he gave to Entertainment Weekly: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20158840,00.html
  • Heroes Spoilers, Rumors: Elle and Claire Related? (10/24/2007)

I'm thinking Elle is Bob's daughter, but I'm not wholly convinced of this. I mentioned in another post that I believe she may be the daughter of Bob's boss, a character we haven't seen yet. Now it is possible she could be related to Claire by blood. Who knows if Claire's biological mother had any other offspring. This is just coming to me, but maybe the company arranged for Nathan and Claire's mom to hook up with the hope of producing a "super" baby. If so, it stands to reason Claire's mother could have been used for the same purpose on other occasions.

Best episode of the season so far, even though it was missing two of the best characters. Loved the cliffhanger ending and the glimpse as to who the "9" may be. I think Kensei is one of the nine, and believe he is the one killing the others but I must admit I'm intrigued by the theory of Peter being the killer. He's been around Hiro, which would give him the abilities to move through space and time without being missed. It would explain how somebody got into the police interogation room and attacked Angela Petrelli without leaving a trace. It could also explain her confession (perhaps she does have a shred of maternal instinct and is protecting a son the world thinks is dead). And Peter has a motive -- these 9 (most of them, anyway) were prepared to let him and millions of others die to further their cause. Then again, for similar reasons it could also be Nathan. If speculation wasn't so fun, I'd wonder why bother? We all know the writers are going to throw an incredible curve at us when these secrets are revealed, much like the shocker of finding out Parkman's dad was one of the 9. And a quick question: shouldn't Claire be a little cautious around West knowing he has the same power as her bilogical father? He has to be connected somehow. And seeing as Nathan has Claire, and we witnessed his fling with Niki/Jessica, it's not unreasonable to believe there are Nathan Petrelli seeds scattered across the USA.

If I'm, not mistaken, and I may be as it has been a while since I watched Season 1, but Hiro was in the picture with Charlie all along. I seem to recall Ando seeing the picture in the present with Hiro in it — while Hiro was away — and then inquiring after him. When that picture was initially shown, wasn't it folded over, or covered by other pictures so we couldn;t see Hiro? Again, I could be wrong because it's been a while since I've watched that episode, but that is how I remember it.

I think the purpose of that subplot was to say that Hiro couldn't use his powers to change the essence of the present, because no matter what he did, Charlie was going to die, whether at the hand of Sylar or because of her brain tumour. Perhaps the small things will change, but the bigger picture, the larger events, are inevitable once they have happened.

Jeremy, I agree 100 per cent with your Explanation #2. We've seen several examples of changing the future (your list is good, plus avoiding the release of the Shanti Virus in S2), but events in the past always seem to lead to the same point in the present.

The one thing everybody should remember is that any talk of time travel is purely hypothetical because IT DOES'T EXIST IN REAL LIFE! Nobody has any concrete idea how time travel would work because time travel is, and likely will always remain, theoretical. All of these paradoxes are just theories because nobody has been able to test them. And they will never be able to test them until somebody develops a flux capacitor and installs it in a DeLorean.

I loved this episode and like where the show is going for the next chapter.

A few points raised by various posts here so far.

When we are talking about a science fiction show like Heroes, where people can fly, go back in time, turn invisible, shoot fire from their hands, etc, we have to be willing to suspend any application of practical physics. Are we going to get nitpicky about how a fast runner can go forward in time, but simply accept that somebdy has a defect in their DNA that will allow them to defy gravity? It's a TV show based on a fictional premise, and unless you are willing to accept that premise you will not get any enjoyment out of the show.

Why didn't Sylar hear Claire coming up behind him? Sylar lost all of his abilities at the end of S1/beginning of S2. He injected himself at the end of S2 to become a supernatural again, restoring the telekinesis, but he had to reacquire any other abilities. The beginning of the second half of S2 that was scrapped because of the writers strike had Sylar on a rampage acquiring powers to rebuild his arsenal. He couldn't hear Claire coming quite simply because he no longer has the ability of super hearing - it's one ability he has yet to reaccquire.

I'm glad they killed off Knox -- he was annoying. I'm anxious to see who saves Sylar. He has acquired Claire's ability so he can survive the fire, but he can't do anything until that piece of glass is removed from the back of his head. It wouldn't surprise me if it's a government agent, sent to Primatech on order of the president to look for people with abilities. Much like Claire's scene on the autopsy table in S1, but instead of sneaking out, Sylar will bull-in-a-china-shop his way out, leaving a trail of bodies like breadcrumbs through the forest.

The future Peter saw at the beginning of this season is now in flux. That is what would have happened had events continued on their present course. But by going back to the present, there is the chance to change that future. However, when considering the past, the writers have fallen into the pattern that changing events in the past won't change the present (which raises the obvious question of the future being the present for people living in the future, but such is the quagmire when dealing with time travel. Perhaps that is why Future Hiro in S1 needed Peter Petrelli to save the Cheerleader to save the world, and he couldn't do it himself). We saw that in S1 with the Hiro-Charlie storyline. he went into the past to save her from being killed by Syalr, only to find she had a brain tumour and was going to die anyway. So even if Hiro didn't go back in the past and rip the formula in two in S3, it was predetermined that it would be torn and separated at some point by somebody. And if this sticks in your craw, I suggest you find another show that isn't science fiction based. Because once again, we are talking about a show where people can do exrtraordinary things -- as viewers we have to be willing to suspend belief and accept what these people can do at face value. If you don't find it plausible, change the channel.

I do agree that Peter has only regained his ability of empathy, and will have to rebuild his arsenal, as Sylar did. I hope this would mean the return of Christopher Eccelston (the invisble man from S1), but I'm not holding my breath. He was a great character.

I'm quite looking forward to Fugitives. I loved the teaser they gave us and the brother vs. brother showdown that looms large.
